Survey Questions
- Do you support an enforced heat maximum by-law for all rental units within your municipality?
- Do you support a moratorium on municipal approvals for the construction of data centres until the full impacts have been assessed and understood?
- Do you support an expanded, accessible, reliable, and sustainable public transit system across the Durham Region?
- Do you support the installation of renewable energy generation (e.g., solar, wind, geothermal, etc.) and battery storage at all suitable municipal structures?
- If elected, what will you do to support programs and policies that address climate change in your municipality and at the Regional level in addition to the above?
Mayor
- I support the need for proper regulation of ventilation in any rental unit. If proper cross ventilation is not available then I would support the need for some kind of assistance whether it be by fan or window unit. To say specifically that landlords must provide airconditioning may backfire. Units may then become too expensive for some with the upgrades. Many homes don’t have air conditioning.

- I support this in principle, yes.
- I support the Pickering Airport lands becoming part of the Federal Rouge Park. None of this area needs to be allocated for housing. Pickering has enough land for housing already allocated in the framework of Seaton. There would be a moratorium on any further discussion for northeast Pickering. Those lands should never even been brought up for discussion. Pickering has over one million square feet of available industrial space. No more new building. The Region of Durham must push back on the provinces ill designed expansion policies. It only takes a few to say “No” before others start chiming in.

- Climate isn’t a separate line item for me — it’s baked into how I’d approach infrastructure, development, and Regional accountability from day one.
- At the municipal level:
- Stormwater and flood resilience first. What’s happening in Claremont with the Clarehaven Estates development isn’t an isolated incident — it’s a warning sign about how development has outpaced stormwater infrastructure. As Mayor, I’d push for a full audit of stormwater capacity ahead of any new approvals, not after residents are already dealing with damaged homes.
- Honest, sequenced development. Growth needs to follow infrastructure readiness — roads, sewers, stormwater, and green space capacity — not the other way around. That’s core to how I’d evaluate developments like the Northeast Pickering Secondary Plan going forward.
- Transparency on climate spending. Every dollar allocated to climate resilience or green infrastructure gets reported publicly, tied to outcomes — consistent with the fiscal accountability standard I’m applying to the whole budget.
- Equitable access. Climate investments (tree canopy, cooling centres, flood mitigation) shouldn’t cluster only in higher-income wards — they need to reach every neighbourhood, including where seniors and lower-income residents are most exposed.
- At the Regional level:
- Push Durham Region for real accountability on how climate and infrastructure levies are spent, the same way I’ve pushed on the broader Regional tax picture — residents deserve to see where climate dollars actually go.
- Coordinate on watershed and stormwater planning with Durham Region and conservation authorities, since flooding like Claremont’s crosses municipal boundaries and can’t be solved by Pickering acting alone.
- Advocate for Regional infrastructure funding formulas that account for climate risk (flood-prone areas, aging stormwater systems) rather than just population growth.
- I’ll also be upfront: some of this — especially Regional-level asks — requires cooperation I can’t unilaterally deliver as Mayor of one municipality. What I can commit to is pushing hard for it publicly and holding Council and Regional partners accountable for results, not just promises.
